Resist The Serpent, Bondage, and Libertad Del Coqui

Oppression has played a prominent role in America since it’s development. Throughout the years’, oppression and racism has gotten better, equal opportunities have been given to those oppressed and mass groups of people have spoken out against this unfair treatment. The long lasting effects oppression has had on African-American, Native America Indian, and Latinos has caused a divide, mental and physical, within these groups. From personal experience, I can say the hard feelings of oppression these groups have suffered, has created a present resentment of America.

Bondage

3×5 ft. Oil & Acrylic on wood

Contrary to popular belief, oppression and slavery have not been completely abolished. Instead, it has been moved into the system where these groups of people continue to find themselves thrown into and further oppressed. For example, today more Black men are imprisoned than were enslaved in 1850.

Libertad Del Coqui

The series of paintings I created are to show, through animal symbolism, the continued oppression we are facing today in America.
